Conducting Lessons

Conducting Lessons

Available for ages 17 & up

Conducting is the art of leading an instrumental or vocal ensemble.

Conducting lessons would be great for someone wanting to learn to lead a group, practice basic skills or hone their craft.

Basic instruction starts an assessment of your goals and experience.

If you are a complete novice, we will begin with basic music theory, which is crucial to understanding and leading your ensemble.

Actual conducting will begin by learning basic beat patterns, beginning with 4/4 and adding 3/4 and 2/4. You will practice conducting both to recordings and live music.

Once basic patterns are learned, we move on to cueing and more complicated patterns, holding a baton, physical conducting expressions, and score study.

More advanced students will study deeper music theory, orchestration, music interpretation and more.
